John C. Califf
John C. Califf was first admitted to practice in New York in 1986 and actively managed complex aviation product liability litigation, involving wrongful death and serious personal injuries.  After moving to Ohio in 2000, and electing to enter private practice, he took and passed the Ohio bar exam in February 2005 and has been admitted in Ohio since May 2005. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts of the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio.

Mr. Califf is a member of the Ohio Bar Association and the Miami County Bar Association.  He serves as a Trustee of the Brukner Nature Center (www.bruknernaturecenter.com) in Troy, Ohio and is on the Board of Troy5, the local Public Access television station (www.troy5.com).

Mr. Califf has a BS from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a JD from the University of Dayton and an MBA in Finance from New York University, with an emphasis on International Business.  In addition to legal advice and counsel, he can provide valuable insight into many areas related to businesses. 

Mr. Califf is a licensed pilot.  He flies complex, high performance aircraft, and maintains currency to exercise the privileges of his Instrument Rating.  He also trains and flies in formation with other aircraft (www.b2osh.org).

 

Joan L. Califf
Joan L. Califf was first admitted to practice in Ohio in 1985, but is currently inactive.  Ms. Califf was admitted in New York and New Jersey in 1987.  She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. 

Ms. Califf tried cases in the Southern and Eastern District Courts of New York and has appeared before U.S. Attorney General Michael R. Mukasey when he was a sitting Judge in the Southern District of New York.  Ms. Califf has taken and defended depositions throughout the world.  While in private practice in New Jersey, she dealt with matters involving domestic relations and real estate.

Ms. Califf has an extensive background in Admiralty Law and for many years was a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, Torts Branch, Admiralty/Aviation Section.

Ms. Califf has a bachelor’s degree from Providence College, a JD from the University of Dayton, and a Masters Degree in Marine Transportation Management from SUNY Maritime College in New York.  She also has a current United States Coast Guard Third-Mate Merchant Marine Officer’s License for steam or motor vessels of any gross tons upon oceans.  Ms. Califf is, and always has been, an active church and community volunteer.
